CrossFit Games 2021 is nearing and many participants are excited. Besides the usual competitions like the men's, women's events will also take place. We're all familiar with the Reebok's equipment, the Pegboard contest, and the Cutting system. But what do we know about the womens' competition? Keep reading to find out! Keep checking the CrossFit news section for the latest updates about the competition.
Competition for women
The women's competition at the 2021 Crossfit Games began this morning with the swim event. Jonne and Tia Claire Toomey-Orr won the first competition. Koski won the overall competition after maintaining her lead all the way. Tall and Eramooo O’Connell came second and three respectively. It was the first Games for women, and the women's side hoped to complete the podium.
The women's contest is filled with high-level athletes. Nine athletes are represented in the field, including a young Australian powerhouse who won last year's competition. Kara Saunders from Australia, who placed second in Australia and 11th globally in 2020 are other contenders. Andrea Nisler, a rising star who competed for the team division in 2018, finished third in America and fifteenth overall in 2020. These athletes will be joined by Sara Sigmundsdottir from Iceland, who was awarded the first place medal at the World Crossfit Games earlier in the year.
Pegboard contest
The Pegboard contest at the Crossfit Games 2021 was a first. It was added to the Games' summer Olympic program along with double-unders and dumbbell overhead squats. With 30 wins, Toomey-Orr holds the record for the most Games events won. Sager won Event 11 (for men) and was awarded his third Games win. Although there were many ties, Toomey-Orr's dominance wasn't enough to prevent him from winning the contest.

CrossFit Games is a training program that focuses on 10 general fitness skills. These include strength, flexibility, power and speed as well as cardiovascular endurance. Pegboard tests the grip strength and coordination of competitors. The athletes compete on a scale by holding two wooden pegs between their hands. The Pegboard was a fierce competition that left the athletes feeling proud of their accomplishments.
Cutting system
The CrossFit Games will once again employ a cutting system for the individual competition. The cuts are not as severe as those used in past Games but they are still very different. Because the competition is made up of 15 events, a cut to 30 athletes after the seventh or eighth event is very likely. Another question remains: how will CrossFit adjust the points spread following cuts? The scoring system used in 2019 was virtually identical to the 2021 one, so it is probable that this will continue.
This year's field consists of 236 athletes, making it the largest in the history of the CrossFit Games. The six first events lead to major cuts. The field then drops to 75 athletes. The top 30 then compete in a sprint couplet to determine the top ten. The top 20 athletes then compete in six more events. Castro's system was criticised by veteran Games participants, who felt that the cuts were too significant.
Reebok's equipment
Reebok announced new CrossFit Games footwear, clothing and other equipment. The new shoes are the Nano X1. They're made to fit multiple fitness needs. Reebok has billed this shoe as "the shoe of fitness," but it actually feels more like a traditional training shoe. DuPont's Kevlar fabric is used for the upper, which promotes breathability and durability. The shoe's responsiveness can be enhanced by its firm midsole and RopePro Tech.

CrossFit's sponsorship contract with Reebok is ending at the end of 2020. There will not be a title sponsor for the Games. Reebok has sponsored the Games for more than a decade. It is now evident that their involvement in the Games will decrease. Reebok won't be funding the Games' prize fund, but will continue making all athletic apparel and equipment worn athletes by, including the Reebok gear. The company will no more refer to itself by the name "Reebok Fitness Games", as it does right now.
