Women's competition
The women's competition at the 2021 Crossfit Games began this morning with the swim event. Jonne Koski was the winner in the first race. Tia Clair Toomey Orr was also victorious. It was the first Games women's event and the women hoped to complete it.

In 2018, she competed in team division and came in third in the United States. She finished fifteenth in 2020. The Women's competition will feature these athletes as well as Sara Sigmundsdottir (an Icelandan competitor who won the first place medal at World Crossfit Games earlier last year).
Pegboard contest
Pegboard contest at Crossfit Games 2121 was a new concept. The Games added it to their summer Olympic program, along with double-unders (dumbbell overhead squats) and pegboard. Toomey-Orr set the record for most wins in a single Games event with 30. Sager won Event 11 and became the Games' third winner. There were several ties in the contest, but Toomey-Orr's dominance was not enough to keep him out of the win.

CrossFit Games athletes train by focusing on ten core physical skills: strength, flexibility and speed. Competitors are tested on their grip strength and coordination in the Pegboard contest. Two wooden pegs are held between the hands of each competitor to gauge their grip strength. The competition was fierce, and the athletes were left feeling a sense of accomplishment after completing the Pegboard.
Cutting system
CrossFit Games will again use a cutting method for individual competition. Although it's not as drastic as previous Games, it is still quite different from this year. The competition consists of 15 individual events, so a first cut to 30 athletes is likely after the seventh or eighth event. CrossFit's decision on how to adjust the points distributed after cuts remains a question. The scoring table used to determine the winners in the 2019 games was very similar to the one used to determine the losers in 2021. This is why it's most likely that the current system will be used.
This year's CrossFit Games team includes 236 competitors, making it the largest ever. Major cuts occur in the first six events. The field is reduced to 75 athletes. The top 30 finishers compete in a sprint pairt to determine who is the top ten. The top 20 athletes then compete in six more events. Veteran Games participants criticized Castro's system, claiming that the cuts were too drastic.
Reebok's equipment
Reebok recently announced new CrossFit Games equipment, including clothing and shoes. The new shoes are the Nano X1. They are made to meet multiple fitness needs. Although Reebok calls this shoe "the shoe for fitness", it feels more like a training shoe. The shoe's upper is made from DuPont's Kevlar material, which promotes durability and breathability.
